A shadow theater performance based on a traditional Indonesian folk tale, told with light, silhouettes, and handmade puppets. The story is about a girl who is born from a magical cucumber and must save herself from a scary giant. With the help of her mother and magical objects, she tries to escape from the giant who is chasing her.
Guldgurka och Jätten (Golden Cucumber and the Giant) premiered at the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg, Sweden. A magical world of shadows leaves colors and space to be created through the imagination and fantasy of the audience.
The performance was about 20 minutes long, and was followed by a 1.5-hour workshop where children could create their own shadow puppets and try playing with shadows themselves. A fantastical world of shadows and storytelling is now within reach. Families and children who participated can now continue to create worlds of their own at home.
